Ambivalence - Part 7"Narsis..." Anothir murmured in her sleep, rolling onto her back, "come back." Her hand reached into the air a bit. Shero sat by her bedside, resting her hand on the girl's shin.

"Anothir? Are you awake?" she asked, squeezing her leg.

"I didn't mean to," she mumbled as a tear escaped from the corner of her eye.

"Anothir," Shero called a little more sharply, shaking the child's leg, "wake up, sunshine."

The girl whimpered and rolled to her other side.

Shero stood and leaned over the girl, placing her hand on her shoulder, "Anothir, please wake up." She gently moved her shoulder, which finally made her open her eyes. "Good morning, dear,"

Ambivalence - Part 6Anothir groaned softly from the bed in the corner as she slowly opened her bright, blue eyes. She looked around, and carefully took in her surroundings. Abruptly, she sat upwards and gasped.

"Good morning, sunshine," a woman's voice called.

The girl's eyes focused more clearly on the room around her, noting a most beautiful window across the way. It was quite a gorgeous morning from the glimpse of the sunlight glittering through the glass pockets.

"Where am I?" Anothir finally asked, turning her face toward the woman beside her bed. This woman's head was shaved close to the skin, and had a tan piece of cloth wrapped around her eyes.

Ambivalence - Part 5Night was falling upon the Imperial City: the sun glinting its last rays over the high walls. The shops were closing, and their owners retiring to bed after a long day's work. Not a sound disturbed the Imperial Palace, save for the small hisses of shifting armor from guards at their posts.

The two entrance guards, Dios and Trulian stood idly by, wishing for some commotion of any sort. Twelve hours on the feet can do that to a person. All of the guards had been on alert ever since the assassination of the Emperor, but nothing eventful ever took place, despite their wishes.

Ambivalence - Part 4Anothir walked quietly along the Gold Road. It was an odd bit of scenery ahead of her, though; everything was still so green and vibrant beyond Kvatch, yet... She turned her head and looked behind her. The land behind seemed so dead and empty. Part of her wanted to believe that it had all been a bad dream, but for those that lived or visited in Kvatch that night, it surely was not a dream.

Anothir sighed heavily and tried her best to forget about it for now. Dwelling on it wasn't going to help. She kept her head down a moment, staring and analyzing the texture of the grass and weeds she walked over. They made a satisfying crunch noise under
